Panasonic TH-50PZ77U 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

I jumped to get mine during a one day sale for a rediculously lower price than here.

No dead pixels. Very bright picture. Video reproduction on this plasma is SO much better than most LCDs I've seen.

Using the HDMI ports from a BluRay player and a HD-DVD player I fine tuned mine to the following settings:

Picture Mode: Standard
Picture: -6
Bright: +15
Color: -6
Tint: -3
Sharp: +5
Color Temp: Normal
Color Management: Off
All Filters: Off

Those settings are for when 1080 is filling up the whole picture; but I have to lower the Picture and raise the Brightness for 4:3 or video with black bars at the top & bottom.

Blacks are better on Standard-Def tube monitors; but black on Plasma's are
much much better than the LCD's I've seen. I've attempted to help a few friends set up their LCD's for best black, but resolution deteriorates on most LCD's when blacks look good. On the other hand the Picture and Brightness tuning on this plasma behaves very similar to a Tube monitor. Blacks are still a bit too milky for my taste, but I guess I'll have to raise the room lighting to trick out my eyes. I like this plasma for the price I paid for it.

Faroudja's DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) and TrueLife video processing eliminate jagged edges that appear with progressive-scan displays for a smoother picture. The 2D digital comb filter helps reduce video noise by comparing each horizontal scanning line with the lines above and below and with the corresponding line on the previous subsequent video frames. Other features include a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, high definition capability (with separate tuner), color temperature adjustment, three-mode aspect ratio adjustment, and a lamp life of up to 60,000 hours. It offers such standard television features as custom channel labels, favorite channel selection, sleep timer, V-Chip parental controls, flashback to previous channel, and tri-lingual menus (English, French, Spanish).

The Z23LZ5R has two built-in 7-watt speakers (for 14 watts of total power) and a volume leveler feature. It offers the following video and audio connections:

We had an ancient 11 year old Toshiba 36" Cinema series television that this replaced. I've spent the last couple of years researching and reviewing the new technology offered in today's television sets. These included DLP, Projectors, various flavors of LCD's and Plasma displays. Of course all had pros and cons, warranties and prices. In the end I fell in love with the Pioneer Kuro Elite. I just didn't want to part with 00 to buy one. When I found out this year that Pioneer was exiting the plasma market I decided to bite the bullet and purchase one before they were no more. I ended up having to buy online from an authorized dealer who basically let me have it for 50% off list price. Even at this price it was still expensive. First impressions after setting it up were WOW!! Colors and black levels were amazing. My sources via HDMI include Sony PS3-Blue Ray, Xbox 360, Netgear EVA 9150 media center and HD Satellite. I use a Denon AV-890 receiver in a 7-1 configuration with Orb-Audio speakers. Our wireless N dual band network provides for great video streaming from many sources including Netflix. It's an awesome display despite the price. My only hope is it lasts as long as the Toshiba. During our 11 years of ownership it never needed one service call. The Kuro does come with a two year warranty and Pioneer has promised to carry parts for 7 years which is a little more comforting.

I work out of my home office, and I'm a self professed tv addict. I'd never had one in my office before, but figured out just the perfect spot to wall mount it, and next thing you know, I had this Dynex in my hand. I'm not a supremely picky person, but I've never had a more affordable brand tv(insignia, dynex, etc)because in that respect I stayed snobby. My living room tv is an LG. But for the price of this, I was willing to waver on brand loyalty, yetI wanted to do my homework before just randomly buying any old thing.

I went to a big box store to look before making a decision, and for the price thought this was a great buy. I also considered just buying a widescreen 'computer monitor', but figured at least with this, if I ever want to use it elsewhere and hook it up to a real cable box, this was perfect.

I mostly use it with a PC, hooking it up with a VGA cable. I've been streaming my comcast cable tv shows, and watching dvds played off the PC. I'm really happy with how easy it was to put up, the picture quality and sound. Not one thing I can find that I don't like. I found a great cheap wall mount at ikea, and this was up within an hour. I was a little nervous being I'd never wall mounted a flat screen before, but after a few weeks I realized 8 pounds of tv is not that big a deal, and I've become quite comfortable with it.

After shopping for months at malls and big package stores, along with independant dealers, nobody could beat the price, along with the convenience offered by Amazon on a top notch product. Item was very carefully packed with instructions to set up written where it did not take a rocket scientist to read them. Picture is actually clearer than what was shown at the stores. The light weight of the tv helps when wanting to move around. The double warning label about being sure the tv is anchored to the wall or cabinet will prevent someone from just overlooking it and finding it in the floor when the dog or kids bump it. Overall a fine product that makes me very confident when I get ready for my "BIG SCREEN" tv.
